The recession has homeowners are investing more money into upgrades, rather than purchasing new residences, says Joe Emison of Buildfax Research. His report examined the number of building permits issued not just in Orange County, California, but also nationwide.
Orange County Had The Highest Rate of Home Remodeling In 3 Years…
– The value of O.C. remodeling permits is up to more than $143.8 million so far, which is the highest number since the recession began in 2008.
– Home remodeling activity is up 24 percent from the first five months of 2009 and up 13.7 percent from 2010.
– Home remodeling is still down 37 percent from its all-time 2006 high.
Nationwide, Home Remodeling Is On-The-Rise Almost Everywhere, even Louisville home remodeling.
– Home remodeling increased 22 percent this May, compared to 2010.
– May marks the 19th straight month of home remodeling increases.
– May was also the highest home remodeling gain in 7 years.
– Home remodeling in the West went up 21 percent.
– Home remodeling in the South went up 10 percent.
– Home remodeling in the Northeast went up 9 percent.
– Home remodeling in the South went down 11 percent.
